COUNSELOR - LEVEL II

Primary Function: Assumes responsibility as primary counselor to alcohol and chemically dependent clients

 

Supervision: Supervised by the Treatment Coordinator

 

Essential Functions:

a.    Complete client evaluation based on assessment of their needs and complete diagnosis based on DSM IV Axis I-V criteria

b.    Complete individualized treatment planning with clients including initial, on-going, continuing care and discharge treatment plan

c.    Complete referral and discharge planning with client and family, and oversee referral completion if assigned to Level 1 Counselor

d.    Complete individual, group, and family counseling sessions which address the individual needs of the client, including relapse prevention

e.    Prepare and complete all necessary documentation and record keeping

f.     Prepare and conduct lectures on alcohol and drug related issues

g.    Maintain knowledge and adhere to Harmony policies and procedures

h.    Participate as an effective and contributing member of the counseling team

i.      Demonstrate knowledge and competency related to confidentiality and ethical standards of the counseling profession

j.      Attend continuing education classes and apply knowledge learned to work at Harmony.  Share knowledge with co-workers

k.    Train, mentor and guide Level I counselors as assigned

 

Minimum Requirements:

a.    Minimum of CAC II certification or NAADAC equivalent required   

b.    Minimum of two (2) years’ experience treating chemically-dependent individuals using individual and group counseling techniques

c.    Physical and emotional health adequate to perform duties

d.    Fluent in spoken and written English

a.    If recovering from chemical dependency, prefer a minimum of three years continuous sobriety upon hire

a.    Proven ability to relate to chemically-dependent persons with both detachment and compassion

b.    Ability to establish a therapeutic alliance with clients

c.    Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of addiction and human behavior

d.    Proven advanced skills in facilitating individual/group counseling.

e.    Proven ability to teach and motivate people

f.     Is teachable, can follow instructions and work in a team-oriented environment

g.    Personal maturity reflected by sound judgment and decision-making.

h.    Ability to relate to fellow employees and clients with understanding and in a realistically supportive manner

i.      Support the department and communicate in an efficient, timely manner.

j.      CPR certified
