HEALTH CENTER ASSISTANT

Primary Function: Assist the licensed nurse with all areas of physical and emotional aspects of chemically dependent clients

Supervision: Supervised by the Director of Nursing

 

Essential Functions:

a.    Assess and chart client’s vital signs, physical and emotional state by following instructions and reporting abnormalities to nurse in a timely manner

b.    Provide appropriate care in case of emergencies

c.    Report observations and conditions for detox period

d.    Attend 75% of nursing department meetings

e.    Willingness to work different shifts as needed

f.     Ability to accurately complete documentation

g.    Ability to work as a team member

h.    Assist nursing staff in admission (vitals, UA specimens, etc.) and discharge process

i.      Maintain inventory of stock medication, prescription refills and medical supplies

j.      Prepare for blood draws

k.    Help with client cabin clearance and room assignments

l.      Transport clients to and from medical appointments

m.   Must have outstanding ethics and ability to maintain confidentiality

n.    Other duties as required/assigned within the scope of practice

o.    Perform venipuncture

p.    Transcribe physician’s orders and obtain co-signature

 

Minimum Requirements:

Level I:

a.    6 months experience at Harmony or phlebotomist experience or CNA certification or unit secretary experience or EMT or EMT-P experience

b.    Current CPR certification

c.    Current 1st Aid certification

d.    Physical and emotional health adequate to perform duties

e.    Valid Colorado driver’s license and eligible for coverage by Harmony Foundation insurance carrier

f.     If recovering from chemical dependency, prefer a minimum of two years continuous sobriety upon hire

g.    Fluency in spoken and written English

 

Level II:  All of the above requirements plus:

a.    Must be in compliance with all licensing regulations and law

b.    Certified Nursing Assistant certification or RMA certification

or

c.    6 months experience in the medical field and knowledge of medical terminology

or

d.    Phlebotomy certified

or

e.    6 months experience transcribing physician’s orders and obtaining co-signature

 

Level III: All of the requirements for level one plus:

a.    Must be in compliance with all licensing regulations and law

b.    Certified Nursing Assistant certification or RMA certification

c.    1 year experience in the medical field

d.    Phlebotomy certified and 1 year experience transcribing physician’s orders and obtaining co-signature

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

a.    Ability to relate with detachment, understanding, and empathy to chemically dependent clients

b.    Willingness to gain knowledge and understanding of the disease concept and  individual counseling procedures in the   treatment of chemical dependency

c.    Willingness to obtain basic knowledge of the emotional and physical aspects associated with chemical dependency

d.    Personal maturity reflected by sound judgment and decision making abilities

e.    Ability to function as a team member r of the nursing department

f.     Ability to communicate effectively with all Harmony staff.  Good written and verbal communication skills

g.    Is dependable, has a minimal amount of unscheduled paid time off and shows up on time every workday

h.    Always gives Harmony best work and handles constructive criticism appropriately. 

i.      Able to perform all essential functions from 1 year of hire date

 

Physical Capabilities:

a.    Physical health adequate to manipulate stairway, access all areas of Harmony’s grounds, assist with ambulation and perform CPR

b.    Physical ability to lift a maximum of 50lbs
