“Everything we do for alumni is in the app,” says Michael Arnold, Harmony’s director of alumni and recovery support services. “Event schedules, volunteering opportunities, ways to be of service, peer support meetings—it’s all right there.”
After downloading the app, Harmony alumni are able to:
- Track their recovery progress.
- Record their 12-Step daily disciplines.
- Join wellness challenges.
- Read articles, listen to podcasts, watch videos.
- Get help from recovery experts.
“Sometimes emails are overlooked, so even if you’re not app savvy, we highly recommend this tool to stay in touch,” says Arnold. “We want to keep it simple, especially in the early days of recovery. That’s what the Hub does.” Since its launch in 2019, more than 700 users have logged on over 40,000 times with over 63,000 interactions.
The Hub provides a “recovery positive space” where people can feel safe enough to post even about a possible relapse and then be open to supportive comments from fellow alumni. 60 percent of Hub users track their recovery in the app.
“Being able to ask questions of their fellow alumni without fear of being shamed or feeling stupid is very empowering,” says Arnold. “This kind of trust creates a really strong community.”
“We take processes that they learned during treatment at Harmony, like creating gratitude lists and integrate them into the Hub. It’s the coolest thing to see people share their gratitude with everybody.” And share they do, since its implementation the app had seen an average of 54 interactions (posts/comments/reactions) per active user and an impressive 800 percent increase in interactions.
So, if you have some downtime or if you’re waiting somewhere, don’t go on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok but go to The Harmony Hub—a space you know is always recovery positive!
Harmony introduced the Hub at a crucial moment, right before the COVID-19 pandemic hit and all kinds of activities had to be moved online. In 2019, the Hub was already a practical addition to the Harmony recovery tool kit, but in 2020 it became a much more important tool to deal with COVID restrictions.
